I have tried everything I know to try to re-set up my email accounts on my iPhone and Mac, since they both showed errors when I used my (correct) password. I reset the password and they still didn't work. I keep getting the message 'imap.mail.att.net is not responding.' When I called AT&T for support, the less than helpful man told me to call Apple, he couldn't do anything to help me.
What can Apple possibly do about an AT&T error message? I can see my email account on Yahoo, but I want it back in my inbox. I download mail to desktop outlook 2016. Have 3 email accts - one main, 2 subs and all 3 are set up as POP mail.
The other day my main mail quit working. Tried all I could then called att, they had me change income/outgoing from Pop.mail.yahoo.com (incoming) to inbound.att.net, smtp.mail.yahoo.com (outgoing) to outbound.att.net.
Did not work. Told me to call MS for outlook support. I told him to escalate the issue and ATT and Yahoo need to come up w/solution - they have the resources to talk to Microsoft. Well next morning I recreated my main acct, this using pop mail. ALL worked fine and has been working fine until about an hr ago. Same crap, different day.
AT&T is getting close to losing a long time customer who has all their service. Get tired of receiving the same emails after deleting, not being able to receive anything AND ABSOLUTELY no help from tech support.
Stretch that term by even calling them tech or support. Any ideas on how to keep OUTLOOK 2016 and AT&T mail working together. As posted earlier, I have the same issue with my iphone, ipad and outlook on Windows. It started this afternoon 1:16 p.m. And two days ago about the same time.
They must be upgrading the server without telling the customers. ATT support is useless. I will not call them and hope the problem works itself out. There is absolutely no reason this should be a problem on an iphone or ipad. I use Outlook 2003 so I can understand why that could be an issue.
But every time I have a problem, it has to do with AT&T not my software or computer. I resolved my problem with.sbcglobal account by doing three different things. Set iPad and iPhone account to yahoo account. This did resolve issue on iPhone and iPad but not Outlook on windows and I Mac. Changed my account in outlook to from pop to imap. Still did not resolve problem. Finally I did a repair on the account in outlook on the windows computer and it has worked since then.
Hope it continues. Not sure what solved the problem since I did three different things. I really think it was an Outlook issue and the repair process corrected it. From my experience the mobile account changes fixed the outlook error messages, but for some reason it lagged and I had to restart it first. That platform took a bit longer, but I did not need to rebuild (several others that used the mobile device fix also had the Outlook for both SBC and Pacbell domains resolved without rebuilding).
Nonetheless, and most important, glad it is resolved! On this thread if there is a place and you can indicate the problem was resolved for you it might help others sort through it. Since you only have the problem on the the iPad, I would delete and add back as a yahoo account. I had the problem on all 4 of my devices with one of my four sbcglobal emails. It got so bad that i might get email and I might not. Never knew when it would work.
No settings on this email were changed. The other three emails had the same settings.

I might have done too much. But it finally worked. That may work for you. But I just found out the real problem.AT&T recently migrated to requiring you to substitute your password with a secure email key. This is especially for people who use email applications such as Outlook.
You have to login to your email account and request a secure email key. Then you need to go to your Outlook or other application email account and replace your password with the secure email key. I just did this ten minutes ago with Outlook 2003 and it works fine for now. It will work with POP3 or IMAP.
